An Awesome Secret Foodies Tour @ Tuscany
November 30th, 2013 — Affairs, Appetizer, Bar/Grills, Beverage, Casual, Cravings, Cuisine, Dessert, European, Filipino, French, Fusion, Greek, McKinley Hill, Mexican, New Brews, Pizza / Pasta, Promos / Events, Quick Service, Restaurants, Spanish, Steakhouse, Sweet Shops, Taguig, Tuscany, Western, Where To Eat
There are four numbers to remember from this ‘Awesome Secret Foodies Tour‘ – they are 8, 20, 3, & 1000. The numerals represent 8 restaurants, a 20-course degustation, 3 Hours, and 1000 pesos.
The Tuscany Food Tour at McKinley Hill in Fort Bonifacio presents a 20-course degustation spread among 8 restaurants that intends to continually fill your tummies for 3 hours. All these for a measly P1,000 from you pocket. Moreover, 2 of the metro’s iconic foodies – RJ Ledesma and Anton Diaz of Our Awesome Planet – will join the group of 30 to make the experience more engaging.
Participating Restaurants in the Food Tour:
- Sauceria
- Planet Grapes
- L.E.S. Bagels
- Main Street
- Sophie’s Mom
- B&T Mexican Kitchen
- Marciano’s
- Trattoria Poggio Antico
Not to keep you wanting for too long, let’s take a peek on what the 8 restos  have to offer:
Planet Grapes
Wine pairing at Planet Grapes plus choice of one red wine and one white wine:
Trattoria Poggio Antico
B&T Mexican Chicken
L.E.S. Bagels
Marciano’s
Sauceria
Main Street
Sophie’s Mom
The place is dainty and cute fit for the little princess. However,  I’m not sure if the Red Velvet shown below will be offered because the tour menu only indicated Oreo Cheesecake Cookies and Flourless Chocolate Cupcakes (fyi). Any which way, you could always order it independently. 🙂
The “An Awesome Secret Foodies Tour” is presented by Megaworld Lifestyle Malls for you to discover Tuscany’s best kept secrets starting today (November 30) and for the next three more Saturdays (December 7, 14 and 21) from 2pm to 5pm.
The experience will enable you to taste a little bit of everything and get a feel of the place before splurging out on an entire meal. Only a limited set of 30 tickets will be available per date tour so hurry up and get your tickets at designated booths near the Tuscany Grand Villas Gate from 11:00am to 6:00pm (between Ukkokei Ramen Ron and Marciano’s).
For more information, you may call 709-0888, 709-9888 or 0917-838-0111.
Food Tour Tip: Eat slowly and enjoy the company as much as you would the food. Each participant will be given a tour kit including the tour ticket, tour pin, degustation menu and the McKinley Hill Gourmet Guide.
NomNom Top Picks are:
- Main Strreet’s Organic Maple and Candied Bacon Artisan Ice Cream
- Sauceria’s Tuna Tataki
- Sauceria’s Feta Cilantro Tomato Cocas
- Marciano’s West Side Four Season Pizza
- L.E.S. Bagels with black sesame seed (I forgot the name; it was long 🙂
- B&T Mexican Kitchen’s “Rice” drink
- Planet Grapes’ Torrontes wine.
Join this mouthwatering degustation at Tuscany in McKinley Hill with your friends and family and I’m sure you will enjoy it as much as we did during the media tour. This Tuscany Food Tour is a secret no more, but remains awesome for the next 4 Saturdays.

Tagged as “where great minds come together to shop and dine,” the Ayala group has created a new lifestyle hub in Quezon City called UP Town Center.
Located in between UP Diliman campus and Ateneo De Manila University, the UP Town Center is patterned after the tradition of great university town centers around the world. The 7.4 hectare UP Diliman East Campus property along Katipunan Avenue in QC has been transformed into a “mixed-use retail and office development“.
Premium retailers, services, and restaurants will serve the needs and demands of office tenants, students, workers and surrounding residential communities surrounding the area.
What makes it unique from the usual retail developments is its bias of support for industry-academe collaboration such as on-the-job training and incubation of start-up businesses. Its operating hours is from Sunday – Thursday 10 AM to 9 PM; Friday & Saturday 10 AM to 10 PM.
Here are some establishments that are currently operating at the UP Town Center:
- Ba Noi’s
- Cafe Shibuya
- Family Mart
- Ginza Bairin
- Highlands Coffee
- IHOP Philippines
- J Co Donuts & Coffee
- Kos Greek Ouzeri
- Lucca Bakery
- Red Onion Cafe
- Ryu Ramen & Curry
- Salu-Salo
- Shrimp Bucket

Sardines Recipe for Lent by Mega Creations Premium Sardines
March 29th, 2013 — Affairs, Cravings, Cuisine, European, Filipino, Fusion, New Brews, Promos / Events, Recipes, Spanish
In a predominantly Catholic country such as the Philippines, Good Friday symbolizes the commemoration of the death of Jesus Christ on the cross. Aside from the prohibition of taking a bath after 3pm, one other observed tradition is the abstinence of eating meat. And so, I found this sardines recipe from Mega Creations Premium Sardines (from the creators of Mega Sardines) a fitting post today. 🙂
A few weeks ago, Mega Creations Premium Sardines, together with Global Academy Head of Operations Chef Greg Villalon, demonstrated that tasty meals can be easily prepared even using common household ingredients in less than half an hour.
The sardines come in two variants: in natural oil and in spanish style. One of the dishes / recipes cooked with a twist was the Moroccan Sardine and Sweet Potato Casserole. It was my favorite and deserves a feature here:
Moroccan Sardine and Sweet Potato Casserole Recipe:
Ingredients
- 6 Cans – Mega Creations Premium Sardines Spanish Style (chopped)
- 2 Cups – Spinach leaves (chopped)
- 2 Cups – Red Bell pepper (strips)
- 1/2 Cup – Raisins
- 1 Cup – White onion (minced)
- 2 Tbsp – Cinnamon powder
- 2 Tbsp – Cumin powder
- 1 Tbsp – Turmeric powder
- 6 Tbsp – Tomato paste
- 1/2 Cup – Olive oil
- To taste – Salt
- To taste – White pepper
Sweet Potato Mash
- 1 Kilo – Orange sweet potato (peeled and cubed)
- 2 Cups – Milk
- 6 Tbsp – Butter (softened)
- To taste – Salt
- To taste – White Pepper
Cheese Crust
- 1 Cup – Cheddar cheese (grated)
- 1 Cup – Japanese bread crumbs
- As needed – Butter
Procedure:
- Peel, chop, and boil sweet potatoes until soft enough for a knife to go through it. Drain off the sweet potatoes before mashing with a fork.
- Place mashed sweet potatoes in a pan, then incorporate milk and softened butter until desired consistency is achieved. Season to taste then set aside.
- Heat olive oil in a sauté pan then add onions, peppers, spinach, and raisins. Briefly saute, then add all the spices and leave in the pan until fragrant.
- Add the potato paste and stir well. Next, add the Mega Creations Premium Sardines and mash thoroughly until a “spreadable texture” is achieved. Season to taste, then set aside.
- Assemble the dish on a casserole or a Pyrex dish. The ingredients will be layered similar to a lasagna dish, with the first layer made of sweet potato puree, and then topped with the spinach mixture. Repeat the process until you fill the casserole.
- Sprinkle the cheese crust on top then add slices of butter to cover the whole dish.
- Bake in a 375° F oven for about 30-45 mins or until the crust has browned.
- Serve and enjoy!
Catch more of the Mega Creations Premium Sardines recipes with Chef Villalon in an exciting new cooking show entitled “Everyday Creations,†premiering on April 5 at 6:30 p.m. on The Lifestyle Network. There will be replays on Sundays, 11:30am and Wednesdays at 6:00 pm. Check My Everyday Creations page on Facebook for additional sardines recipes as well.
Asian Dolce Latte & New Food Items in Starbucks this March
March 6th, 2013 — Appetizer, Casual, Coffee Shops, Cravings, Cuisine, Dessert, European, Fusion, Italian, New Brews, Quick Service, Restaurants, Sweet Shops, Western
06 March 2012, Philippines -Â ‘What is Asian coffee?‘, you may ask. That actually kept me thinking. If Europe has their espresso and the Americas got the cafe Americano, Asia seems to drink from the sweeter side of the cup, albeit retaining the strong coffee flavor.
With that in mind, Starbucks highlights the unique flavor of Asia this new month of March with the introduction of the locally inspired Asian Dolce Latte since yesterday.  Add to that a revelation of the new food items, and finger sandwiches:
Asian Dolce Latte (T/G/V- ₱115,₱130, ₱140 )
Starbucks puts an Asian twist to their line with the smooth textured latte with sweet dolce sauce combined with freshly steamed milk, topped with velvety foam.
Don’t forget a double-shot of the premium, dark-roasted Starbucks® Espresso Roast.
The uniquely flavored dolce sauce is a blend of different milk that gives the coffee a smooth and rich velvety texture.
Iced Asian Dolce Latte (T/G/V- ₱125,₱140, ₱150 )
The Asian Dolce Latte also has a cold counterpart known as Iced Asian Dolce Latte.
It is made with fresh milk, ice layered with roasty shots of espresso and topped with espresso whipped cream plus a dash of espresso dusting.

New Starbucks Food Items
Dark Chocolate Turtle Cake (slice-₱120, whole-₱1350)
This is a moist and dense chocolate buttermilk sponge cake layered with caramel pecan fudge on a chocolate cookie pecan crust, covered with dark chocolate icing. Highly recommended by NomNom for its chocolate factor!
Chocolate Hazelnut Éclair (₱85)
It’s a delicious and decadent pastry filled with creamy and velvety chocolate hazelnut cream custard. Make sure to pair it with a hot  tea or coffee!
Crab Stick Salad On French Butter Croissant (₱120) [Top Photo]
Flaky and crisp, this croissant is filled with a creamy crab stick salad, chopped crunchy celery and hard-boiled egg with hints of wasabi. Filling and good!
Kung Pao Chicken Wrap (₱155)
Chicken breast cubes, fresh asparagus strips, carrots, tomatoes, ginger, onions and garlic sautéed in a sweet soy sauce then sprinkled with roasted chopped peanut go hand-in-hand as a package wrapped in pita bread. East meets west.

New Finger Sandwiches
Forest Ham And Monterey Jack Cheese On Brioche Loaf Bread (₱110)
Simplicity is the keyword. This sandwich holds a Forest ham and Monterey Jack cheese on a soft sweet bread loaf. Â A great light snack for those who want a quick bite.
Salmon And Capers On Parmesan Bread (₱110)
Salmon spread meets tart chopped capers with lemon juice, cucumber and parmesan cheese. This sandwich is loaded with heart-healthy omega 3 fatty-acid.
Cheesy Egg And Bacon Salad On Simple Bread (₱110)
There’s always room for the classics! The egg salad is made cheesier with a twist of bacon in bits sandwiched in between a simple soft pair of bread.
Make sure to drop by at a Starbucks Philippines branch soon as the new Asian Dolce Latte will only be around until May 14, 2013!
“Taste the Love” with The Bistro Group
January 25th, 2013 — Affairs, Alabang, Appetizer, Bar/Grills, Batangas, Beverage, Casual, Cebu, Chinese, Cravings, Cuisine, Davao, Dessert, European, Filipino, Fusion, Greenhills, Iloilo, Italian, Japanese, Las Pinas, Makati, Mandaluyong, Manila, Naga, New Brews, Ortigas, Paranaque, Pasay, Pasig, Pizza / Pasta, Promos / Events, Quezon City, Quick Service, Restaurants, Singapore, SouthEast Asia, Steakhouse, Sweet Shops, Tagaytay, Taguig, The Fort, Western, Where To Eat
No, this is not an advance Valentine’s Day post. It has nothing to do with Valentine’s Day, actually. 🙂 The Bistro Group of restaurants, known for their international and casual dining brands, has just launched their latest campaign called “Taste the Love.”
Taste the Love is not a promo per se, it’s about inviting diners to taste the love behind their every restaurant concept launched. The campaign celebrates a series of milestones for The Bistro Group including:
- the opening of 50 restaurants spread across the 12 resto concepts
- the appointment of Corporate Chef Josh Boutwood
- the launch of its Premiere Card.
12 Restaurant Concepts
Modern Shanghai is one of the four freshest name in the group which brings authentic recipes in a homey environment. Village Tavern, Watami, and Ma Maison, completes the group having come from the US and Japan ( for the latter two).
The Bistro Group of restaurants is composed of TGI Friday’s, Italianni’s, Fish & Co., Flapjacks, Pig Out!, Krazy Garlik, The Stock Market, Bulgogi Brothers , and the previously mentioned restaurants.
But within the 1st quarter if 2013, expect the US-based Chuck E. Cheese’s to be the 13th as it opens at the New Glorietta soon.
Chef Josh Boutwood
Together with the arrival of Chef Boutwood is the launch of new dishes as well. Among the favorites in the list are Sesame Teriyaki Chicken Wings, the Fully Loaded Sweet Potato Skins (Village Tavern), and the a la carte Katsu Menu (Ma Maison). NomNom Club‘s favorite is the Black Pizza (black due to the squid ink mixed with the dough), also from Village Tavern.
The Premiere Card
The Bistro Group Premiere Card will offer multiple discounts up to 40% off the total bill; complimentary appetizers, coffee, and tea; as well as birthday treats for the cardholder.
In addition, for February, The Bistro Group is offering an exclusive deal for Citibank cardholders. From February 4-7, cardholders will receive 50% off food and beverage orders worth at least P2,500, with a discount up to P5,000.
“Taste the Love is not just about food. It’s about the heart and the passion that goes into everything we do, from our concepts to our locations to our service to of course, our food… we allow our customers to taste the love from the moment they get hungry and think about our restaurants to the time they have polished off every bite,” says Lisa Ronquillo, AVP Marketing of The Bistro Group.
‘Taste the Love‘ from all the Bistro Group of Restaurants starting this 2013! I wonder what other upcoming deals, menu items, and treats they will dish out soon?
New Find: Citrus Restaurant & Deli
January 10th, 2013 — Bar/Grills, Casual, Cravings, Cuisine, Dessert, European, Filipino, Fusion, New Brews, Ortigas, Pizza / Pasta, Restaurants, Spanish, Steakhouse, Sweet Shops, Western, Where To Eat
It was a quick trip from SM Megamall to Julia Vargas corner Meralco Avenue going to Renaissance Condominium. After parking, we found ourselves at its 2nd floor inside Citrus Restaurant & Deli upon invitation of the owner through common friend.
The interiors of Citrus Restaurant was classical-posh but laid back. If you value your privacy, Â a quaint location as such is great.
Interestingly, they also have an exclusive second floor with a mock-up fireplace that also serves a wine cellar for expensive wines ranging in the hundreds of thousands.
Citrus House Specialties
Now for the food. More than the usual tapas, I highly recommend their house specialties Jaunita’s Callos and Lengua with mashed potatoes which is surprisingly affordable at P259 and P200++ only, respectively.
The callos was flavorful and cooked just right as if it was done by a lovely chef mom at home. The lengua was tender and exceeded my expectations.
The food was served without unnecessary fancy decorations either but I noticed the elegant and irregularly shaped white plates fit for the 2-person serving dish.
Citrus Main Dishes
From their main dishes, we got to try the Pan-Fried Fish ala Vera Cruz. Quite a long name, but it was no disappointment either at only P199.
This was followed by the Spaghetti Bolognese (P199) and a double-sized thin-crust pizza. I also shared a Vanilla milkshake with my fiance who loves anything sweet. 😛
Desserts and More
Finally, some baked potato chips and a delectable Panna Cotta (top photo) concluded our dinner affair. I thought I was already used to the low prices but the P59 panna cotta was simply unexpected.
Promos
They also have a P999 promo offering 1 bottle of wine + all you can eat tapas-tapas. Or the Drink All You Can Jack Daniel’s for P949. Night chillers can also get free tapas-tapas for every 10 bottles of beer.
If you’re looking for an eclectic flair that would match your tapas, they have live bands playing with a different concept every night of the week.
They open up as early as 7am and offers breakfast, salad, and a wide range of pizza collection. Beverage range include soda and juices starting at P40 and P60, respectively. Beer starts at P50.
Aside from great food, I highly recommend Citrus Restaurant as a very ideal place for dating with its intimate and sophisticated ambiance; not to mention the friendly prices for guys on a tight budget. 🙂
Citrus Restaurant & Deli
2F, Renaissance 3000, Meralco Ave. Ortigas Center , Pasig
7am- 12am daily
Lounge (9pm-12am and extended on Fridays and Saturdays)
Call them for reservations at: 667-3458, 667-3465, 631-0335
I definitely have to be back at Citrus Restaurant soon and try more of their new world cuisines on the menu; perhaps at the wine cellar on the 2nd level next.
My Top 10 Ultimate Taste Test 2 Recommedations
September 25th, 2012 — Affairs, Appetizer, Beverage, Chinese, Cravings, Cuisine, Dessert, European, Filipino, French, Fusion, Japanese, Makati, New Brews, Promos / Events, Rockwell, Western, Where To Eat
Although our editor-in-chief has been to previous UTT, Clasrissa and I were first-timers and excited to be “food critics” for a day in the recent Rockwell’s Ultimate Taste Test 2.
Knowing that there would be 40 different food stalls to try at the Rockwell Tent, we had to craft a plan so we can try everything just like how our EIC made it in last year’s Ultimate Taste Test. I couldn’t imagine how to go through each and every booth so I told Clariss that we should start with main dishes such as pork, chicken, and other meat down to the desserts and beverages.
We were given a set of food tray, a pen, and a map with a grading sheet with the names of the participating vendors. It’s actually our passport to every food stall. We don’t have to finish all the stalls but it would be an awesome experience if we do!
The Scoring System:
- 1 – Thanks, but it could be better
- 2 – It’s Okay
- 3 – We had a good time!
- 4 – I love it!
- 5 – Awesome! I would recommend!
The UTT management has made it very comfortable for the “food criticsâ€, there’s enough space, drinking water dispenser and disposable plastic cups.
On my list, I actually had 12 different food stalls with a grade of 5, but will shorten it the Top 10. Let me share our great food finds with a grade of 5 at UTT2.
1. Hillside Ranch
o This is one of the most scrumptious meat entrée in UTT2. To be honest, I’m a little picky when it comes to meat. I always want it juicy, moist, flavorful but definitely not salty, and most of all tender! Available in two variants, the corned beef brisket an my favorite  slow roast beef belly. Unfortunately, they are not available in major supermarkets but you can buy them at Trellis in QC and Essel Supermarket in San Fernando, Pampanga (the province where they came from – a place famous for good food).
2. Carlo’s Kitchen
o The crispy, crunchy goodness of Carlos Kitchen pork belly goes very well with a bottle of San Miguel Beer! I got to try it when I visited Mercato Centrale about few months ago. The flavour, which is not too salty, and the crispiness remain the same. Crunchy belly is good for “pulutan†(finger food or appetizer). I almost forgot my favourite Bulacan chicharon!
3. Baked by Anita
o Known for their delicious cupcakes, Baked by Anita surprised us with their newest offering – a flavourful savory pie called the “Wild Mushroom Gruyere & Truffle Oilâ€. The truffle oil made it more appealing to the palate.
UTT would not be complete without dessert such as creamy and irresistible ice cream, cakes, pastries and smoothies. Here’s my take on their dessert & beverage section.
4. Blue Togue
o When it comes to desserts, I highly recommend Blue Togue! Initially, I was hesitant to try the cakes and pastries since I had some cheesecake overload the past few days. As of this writing I still have two boxes of Conti’s cakes in my fridge. Nonetheless, their Nutella Mouse Cake looks so divine I can’t resist! And yes, I was bewitched with its moist and creamy chiffon. I highly recommend Blue Togue!
5. Matasami Flavoured Shave Ice
o This one is definitely different from other flavoured shave ice I tried in the past. I never thought it would be so smooth, so luscious, so creamy and so delicious! I tried two flavors – the Swiss Cheese and Langka, in favor of the former. The owner was very generous offering us to try other variants but I had to refuse. Perhaps on my next visit, I will try the Hawaiian Shave Ice and their liquor syrups.
o Matasami can be found in: SM Mall of Asia, Robinsons Galleria, Glorietta 4 Cinema Level and soon at Robinsons Magnolia.
6. Villa Del Conte
o I’m already familiar with Villa del Conte as boyfie once gave me a box of these luscious, rich, premium chocolates.
7. Saint Alps
o They served us their refreshing Blueberry Double Chocolate which was outstanding!
8. Bayani Brew
o Bayani brew offers interesting and healthy beverages. I tried their Lemongrass Pandan Iced tea and Purple leaf tea Iced tea. Guess what is a purple leaf tea? It’s actually “talbos ng kamote†(kamote tops)! Interestingly, it doesn’t taste like kamote tops. However, the lemongrass pandan is just like a regular brewed iced tea but I liked it nonetheless! Each bottle costs P35.
9. Pinkberry – They served us Coconut Pinkberry and made us choose 3 toppings. It had a good balance of tanginess and sweetness to crave for.  Check out my separate post on Pinkberry.
10. Mochi Sweets
o A soft and not-too-sweet mocha dessert goes well with a cup of hot tea. Since we’re already full, I paired it with Nescafe Dolce Gusto Cappuccino.
With a wide variety of food, I never thought I would be spending almost four hours at UTT2.
Other interesting food items are the Hokey Pokey Ice Cream from New Zealand Natural, Frisch Liquor Ice Cream, Maria’s Ilocos Empanada, Chef Anton, Lulu Belle, & the Plaza.
On the other hand, there were two food stalls that I had to visit twice because they run out of food – Chief Wings and Chow Fun. The latter offered us their interesting chocolate butchi.
