October 16, 2015 is being celebrated worldwide as â€œWorld Bread Dayâ€, but here at Quezon Cityâ€™s first bakery, Kamuning Bakery Cafe is celebrating it as the â€œWorld Pandesal Dayâ€.

Why â€œWorld Pandesal Dayâ€? The pandesal is the historic and unique national bread of the Philippines, thisÂ bread is eaten by the masses, middle-class and essentially by all. Â The humble pandesal bread represents the peopleâ€™s simple wish for liberation from hunger and usually consumed for breakfast. Hot freshly pugon-baked pandesal also represents happiness.

In celebration of the World Pandesal Day, Kamuning Bakery CafeÂ is having some pandesal-related activities highlighted by giving away of FREE 30,000 pieces of pugon-baked pandesal.

Here are the details:

Kamuning Bakery isÂ giving away FREE 30,000 pieces of pugon-baked pandesal to all people in the neighborhood and most especially to the urban poor communities of Quezon City
TheirÂ partner in this project and Guest of Honor at the Oct. 16 Friday 9 a.m. launching of â€œWorld Pandesal Dayâ€ is the lower tax advocate Senator Sonny Angara (who has no need to run in the 2016 election). Afterwards, Senator Angara shall be the resource speaker at the â€œPandesal Forumâ€ breakfast with media, university professors and public school teachers.
Another special guest is actor Dingdong Dantes of the National Youth Commission.
Opening the Kamuning Gallery, which shall showcase contemporary art such as paintings, photography, and more featuringÂ theÂ photo exhibit of Chris Lucas.

History of Kamuning Bakery Cafe

Kamuning Bakery Cafe was founded by the late Atty. Leticia Bonifacio Javier and her husband Marcelo Javier in 1939, and it was acquired and revived in December 2013 by its â€œsukiâ€ (loyal customer), writer, college teacher and self-made real estate entrepreneur Wilson Lee Flores. The restored cafe was opened on March 20, 2015.

Kamuning Bakery Cafe‘s pandesal, pan de suelo, pan de coco and cakes customers come from all walks of life—from the late pre-war media tycoon Don Alejandro Roces who facilitated sale of land in 1939 at 15 centavos per square meter from the national government to create this bakery, to his son the newspaper publisher & activist Joaquin â€œChinoâ€ Roces, press freedom stalwart U.P. Dean Armando Malay, the late democracy stalwart President Cory C. Aquino, generations of artists like National Artists Nick Joaquin and Levi Celerio, showbiz celebrities, to a public school student who used to walk here to buy pugon-baked breads for merienda and now the first woman Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.

Kamuning Bakery Cafe is not only Quezon Cityâ€™s first bakery and Metro Manilaâ€™s original artisanal bakery known for upholding old baking and culinary traditions, its diverse clientele include political leaders, writers, artists, showbiz celebrities, and many others.
