The “Make Your Own Magnum” craze returns in a new location. From the former SM Aura Premier mall in Taguig, their new location since Dec 19, 2015 is at the 2nd floor of the Mall Atirum in SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City. Located at the center of the air-conditioned mall, the new Magnum Manila Pop-up Store can be found in front of Uniqlo MOA and across the Zara boutique.

Pleasure Seekers alert! Your favorite Belgian chocolate indulgence returns as Magnum‘s signature ice cream bars makes a come-back with the latest White Almond which was launched a few months ago.

Keeping true to the pop-up concept of every café, Magnum Manila now focuses on the Magnum-My-Way concept and lets go of the restaurant concept like it had in the previous SM Aura flagship store. Moreover, it will be open for a limited time only, maybe a year or so, give or take a few months. But I believe it will stay, at the very least, until the next holiday season of Dec 2016 or until Philippine Summer 2017.

How to Make Your Own Magnum

Each Make Your Own Magnum experience costs P120 including the signature Magnum bar dipped in Belgian chocolate plus three of your choice toppings from a wife array of 18 options.

• Step 1: At the counter, Pleasure Seekers select a “naked” Magnum bar of silky Vanilla or rich Chocolate ice cream, as well as a chocolate coat amongst white, milk, or dark chocolate.

• Step 2: Next, sprinkle your now-coated Magnum bar with toppings that range from classic toppings that you’d expect to compliment any ice cream like marshmallows or crunch balls, special toppings that are a little more luxurious like freeze dried raspberries or pistachios, or experimental toppings that are more adventurous like chili flakes or sea salt flakes. You should not miss our very own “Pastillas” this season!
  

  Dip Your Magnum Bar in White Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, or Milk Chocolate

• Step 3: Finally, you drizzle your creation with a choice of white, milk, or dark chocolate, and the store’s Pleasure Maker will top off your creation with an “M” coin. The finished product, a cold Belgian chocolate masterpiece of your own dreaming, is yours to enjoy.

It’s been almost two months now since the launch of Magnum’s newest flavor in the Philippines – Magnum Gold.

It was launched last February 9 in different parts of the country. At the same time, they were revealed in select SM Supermarket branches. It was also about the same time whene the “2 for P100” promotion was launched.

As much as some good things come to an end, you still have until today – March 31 – to catch the Magnum Gold fever of 2 for P100 in all SM Supermarket, SM Hypermarket, and Savemore Market.

“It’s coming…”, says the teaser of an ice cream brand with a golden shadow on its side. Came Sunday – 02.09.14, Selecta ice cream announced the coming of the newest Magnum variant in the Philippines – Magnum Gold?!

After the luxurious Belgian chocolate ice cream bar came to the Philippines since two years ago, the premium ice cream on a stick has already made mark in the local market .

Not resting on its laurels, Magnum ice cream kicked off 2014 with its big news for loyal pleasure seekers with the new Magnum Gold. This new level of indulgence mixes a swirl of sea salt caramel with the silky vanilla ice cream. Moreover, it is the first double dipped Magnum bar wherein the ice cream bar is first coated with a layer of Belgian milk chocolate and dipped again in a layer of golden-colored white chocolate!

In a campaign prior to launch, Magnum hinted the public with the hashtag #GrabTheGold while SM Supermarket complemented it with #GRABtheGOLDatSM to highlight its convenient availability in SM Mall’s SM Supermarket areas.

Furthermore, Magnum has tied up with Hollywood acclaimed director Bryan Singer (XMen 2014), Oscar winner Benicio del Torro (The Collector – The Guardians of the Galaxy,  Avengers), and Brazilian supermodel and actress Caroline Correa to create a golden cinematic trailer to launch the newest flavor that is Magnum Gold.

Here in the Philippines, celebrity Raymond Gutierrez led the pre-launch teaser at SM Aura‘s Director’s Club theater for the media three days prior to the grand reveal.

On the field, motorists around Metro Manila, particularly Makati, have caught a glimpse of a massive golden vault, marked only by the letter ‘M,’ being escorted through traffic. The 7×7 foot-large vault of shining gold was hauled from the RCBC Tower on Ayala Avenue to the Fort Bonifacio Activity Center, guarded by an entourage of BMWs ensuring its safe arrival. At the Fort, the golden vault was held under security until its unveiling last February 9.

Online, Magnum lovers were also teased with ‘unlocking the gold‘ through mysterious activities at www.magnum.com.ph.

And so it came. NomNom Club was among the first to try the new Magnum Gold 3 days prior to the reveal.

The vanilla ice cream we love maintained its silky smooth quality and is now even more enhanced with the sea salt caramel swirls. The double coating made the experience more interesting with its thinker coating and stronger-pitched crackling sound. :) The golden white chocolate was also a welcome twist.

The golden day came and mini gold vaults popped up in cinema lobbies and SM Supermarkets of malls around Metro Manila. These malls included: SM Megamall, SM MOA SM Hypermarket, SM North Edsa, SM Southmall, SM Aura, and SM Makati, among others.

At exactly 3pm, the first 100 consumers to line up at the cinema lobbies at the malls got the chance to experience the Magnum Gold standard.

In SM Supermarket groceries, shoppers got instant rewards to claim their free Magnum Gold at the “Unlock the Gold” booths where they also got the chance to win one of five iPhone shuffles that day among the 200 lucky SM Supermarket customers. #GrabtheGoldatSM

One Magnum Gold is regularly priced at P55 each but from February 10 to 28, you can get 2 Magnum Gold for only P100 in all SM Supermarket, SM Hypermarket, and Savemore Market.

Magnolia Cookie Monster was first released in the market a few months ago together with the Magnolia Ice Cream Best of the Philippines collection. It is endorsed by Philippine teen celebrity Elmo Magalona, son of the late Filipino celebrity rapper and music icon Francis Magalona.

A few months after and with an aggressive marketing, Magnolia, through a media event held at Magnolia Flavor House in the new Robinsons Magnolia mall, announced two new flavors or variants of the Magnolia Cookie Monster in addition to the Choco Classic. The two new flavors are Choco Caramel and Choco Hazelnut. A grand fans day for the  followers of Elmo Magalona was also held afterwards.

Yours truly was invited as a blogger to the launch and was able to try the new products.

The packaging design is generally the same as that of the Magnolia Cookie Monster Choco Classic but in yellow and red colors for the caramel and hazelnut flavors, respectively.

It’s main thrust is its over-indulgence with chocolate having been made with four different kinds of chocolate from coating to filling. The coating would remind you of the classic Pinipig Crunch because of the rice balls in the coating. I’m not sure if they are also rice crispies (pinipig) and they just changed the name for marketing reasons. You may also be briefly reminded of the Magnum craze, only more conservative (thinner coating).

Moreover, Magnolia Cookie Monster is filled with a fudgy center filling on the inside, surrounded by chocolate ice cream.

As per the taste, I found the caramel variant too sweet and was not even able to finish the whole choco-stick. For an ice cream lover such as I, my friends would be surprised of this rare occurrence.  🙂

On the other hand, the Choco Hazelnut (Top Photo) gets the thumbs up for it’s interesting twist on the flavor. It’s not common to find a hazelnut flavor in a choco ice cream bar which retails for only P20. However, the Choco Classic retains it’s top spot on my favorites.

Tomorrow – October 28, 2012 – the Magnolia Cookie Monster television commercial will be released in major television networks (watch the TVC video in advance here).

Elmo Magalona is still it’s endorser effectively catering to the young market, specially the ladies who usually succumbs to the impulse of buying one of the best comfort food known to man – ice cream. 🙂 And also, the play of words with ‘Elmo‘ and ‘Cookie Monster‘…Sesame Street, anyone?
