Electrolux Discover-E Food Festival: 6 Ingredients that Made it a Success!

I have attended a number of food bazaars and exposition in the past years but the recent Electrolux Discover-E Food Festival held at the NBC Tent in Taguig last month was exceptionally fun. Beyond just tummy filling, the food festival was also a great event.

What made the Electrolux Discover-E Food Festival a Success

The two-day first Electrolux Discover-E Food Festival held last June 2013 was a resounding success for the brand after being able to come up the big event.smooth and easy.

Here are the following reasons which I think made the first Electrolux Discover-E Food Festival a success:

  • The Food Festival

First, of course, is the food. There were a lot of food kiosk and stalls serving great food.

Moreover, with a theme focusing on Filipino cusine and pinoy specialties, most of the food stalls and exhibitors, even those not necessarily have a pinoy inclination came up with specific pinoy specialties to showcase exclusively during the event only.

Some of which that were substantial are the following: Inutak, Teue Deli, Kesong Puti Tsiskeyk, The Juice Barista, Mrs. Grahams, Choco ATBP, Manongs Bagnet Station, Tiltilan, Vigan Empanada, Pinoysilog, Whisk, Pedro’s Buko, Double Delights, Manila Bake,

My favorites were Inutak, Mrs. Grahams, The Juice Barista, and True Deli‘s Litson baboy Ramo with Sarsa ng Kabote which I had for lunch albeit it costs P270. I think it was my first time to eat baboy ramo. 🙂

I love 2 things from Delicakes by Joy, the tea-infused pastries Flavored Macarons and the Earl Grey Almond Crips.

The former looks like a fusion of the traditional Filipino macarons and cupcakes which are moist to the taste inside and out. A box of original macaroons box of 12s mini costs P160; the assorted one is P180.

The latter is even better with its crispy texture hihglighted by my favorite almond slivers. It’s not cheap at P150 per 80 grams but the experience eating ’em is worth the amount.

Ultimate Taste Test: How I Made it Through 51 Food Stalls in 5 Hours

What do you call the act of devouring food at the Ultimate Taste Test event? – ‘Ultimate Taste Testing’. 🙂

Anton Diaz of Our Awesome Planet, NomNom, & Tricie (R-L)

Anton Diaz of Our Awesome Planet, NomNom, & Tricie (R-L)

Ok, I made that up.

A week after the Ultimate Taste Test 6.0, people have been asking how many food stalls was I able to try. And when I answer 51, they seemed to be amazed and ask how I did it.

It’s simple actually.

If you approach it mathematically, ~50 stalls in 5 hours is equal to 10 stalls per hour or 6 minutes per food stall. Thinking about it, 6 minutes is already a good rate which includes taking photos, lining up, and asking  a little background about the food from the owners.

Here are some tips on how I was able to make it through 51 of the 55 food stalls in Ultimate Taste Test 6.0:

1) Skip Breakfast – this readies your tummy with maximize space available. 🙂

2) Come Early – I came 15 mins. ahead of time. There were only a handful of people and you’ve got the food suppliers pulling you by the arm just to try their delicacies. You’ll never feel unwanted. 🙂

Conquering 51 Food Stalls at the Ultimate Taste Test 6 (2011)

Conquering 51 Food Stalls at the Ultimate Taste Test 6 (2011)

3) Relax, Don’t Panic – Eat in pace, one at a time. You’re not in a race. Get rid of the greedy mentality and trust the organizers that they prepared enough food for everyone and that you will not run out of food to taste.

4) Take a Sip after every food stall visit – this helps clear your palate for objective tasting of the next, and pushes down the previous. You can also bring a water bottle just in case the event lacks beverage suppliers.

Nomnomnom...

Nomnomnom...

5) Eat in Line – when rush hour strikes, you might find yourself waiting in line specially if the stall is a blockbuster hit. This is the best time to eat your haul from the previous stall. By the time you’re finished, your’re in front of the line. Efficiency is key. 🙂

6) Bring an Eating Buddy – (preferably with the same level of appetite)  nothing beats peer support. If you see your friend eating along with you, you will be more determined. Although I came by myself, we didn’t fall short of having the other food bloggers around for company (and critique).

7) Strategize – being my third UTT, I already learned from my previous mistakes. I utilized a different strategy this time. For the first hour (11am-12nn), I just took photos. The title should actually be 51 Stalls in 4 Hours. 🙂

8 ) Alternate Main Dishes and Desserts – my first approach was from left to right, but there came a point when there was a series of dessert food stalls which overwhelmed even my sweet tooth. I decided to drop my sequence and just remember to go back to the ones I skipped.

6 Ultimate Finds from the Ultimate Taste Test 6.0

This was my alternate title for this article. But since a lot of food bloggers already came out with theirs days ago. I surmised mine was old news.

Anyhow, so here’s NomNom Club‘s Top 6 Ulitmate Finds from the Ultimate Taste Test 6.0 last week:

Bounty Fresh Highlights Benefits of Vaccum-Packed Dressed Chicken

Bounty Fresh

Bounty Fresh

Bounty Fresh Chicken recently invited NomNom in their first online product launch and quad-media day at Chef’s Table Restaurant at Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City.

A Filipino-owned supplier of leading chicken products, Bounty Fresh aims to providing quality poultry produce to Filipinos. In fact, their president Mr. Tennyson Chen recently won the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2010 award. Moreover, they bagged the 2009 Asian Livestock Award for best practices as Asia’s Best in the broiler integrator category.

The Programme

The program started with welcome remarks from host Meg Entrata. Some games including Pinoy Henyo about chicken brought entertainment to the crowd while a raffles was also conducted in the end.

There was also an AVP presentation  by Bounty Fresh Brand Marketing Group Head Patricia Cheng on Bounty Fresh’s history.

It was followed by a brand talk by Bounty Fresh Assistant Brand Manager for Processed Meat & Fresh Chicken Kathy Gomez.

All these with free Wi-Fi and free-flowing coffee and tea.

Chicken Recipes

Chicken Recipes

Aside from the awesome chicken dishes prepared by Chef’s Table Chef Bruce Lim, I found the Wellness Talk by renowned & respected nutritionist Joan Sumpio RND very interesting.

I often see regular and vacuum-packed chickens at the grocery or at the kitchen as prepared by my mom. But I just regard them as the same and considers the latter as more expensive in exchange for the extra safety having been ‘pre-packed‘.

It turns out that there is more to it with vacuum packs than just safety.

Wellness Talk

Ms. Joan Sumpio RND

Ms. Joan Sumpio RND

As former head of the Dietary Department in University of Santo Tomas Hospital, Ms. Sumpio pointed out the benefits of vaccum-packed dressed chicken:

  1. Fresh – Chicken is stored in an air-free environment that keeps it fresh always
  2. Delicious – The chicken’s natural flavor and juice are preserved
  3. Safe – The pack keeps chicken away from harmful bacteria that migrates from other foods and  those coming from the external air
  4. Longer-Lasting – It can have as much as 5x its normal refrigerated shelf life.

That’s something new to me and I think every mom and foodies should know as well.

Moreover, she mentioned in her talk that chicken is an excellent source of protein (from meat), phosphorous (chicken head), selenium, and vitamin B3 (liver part) & B6. Add to that manageable amount of fat, calcium, iron, beta-Carotene (vitamin A), Vitamin B1, and Vitamin B2. Healthy weapons we need these days against cancer, diabetes, heart disease, malnutrition, and osteoporosis.

“It’s about time, you think about good foods for your health and not just simply looking for delicious dishes…it’s chicken,” adds Ms. Sumpio “Chicken is one of the most versatile and healthy ingredient  we can include in our meals.”

Chicken Menu Calendar shows Chicken DIsh Versatility

She ended the nutrition talk with a funny acronym of CHICKEN: Choosing Healthy Ingredients for Cooking & Knowing the Essentials in Nutrition. It was indeed an enlightening realization of the importance of chicken meat, nutrition and finding the right product in the market.

The Bounty Fresh Chicken Dishes

Of course, this blogpost will not end without featuring some of the chicken dishes we had in the Bounty Fresh event.

TV celebrity gourmet Chef Bruce Lim prepared some delicious and healthy chicken meals for the guests. He also demonstrated some of his well-loved chicken recipes such as the Chicken Pandan.

According to Chef Bruce, Chef’s Table Restaurant itself uses Bounty Fresh chicken for their chicken dishes which include whole dressed chicken and chicken cut-ups (for Chicken Tinola).

Bounty Fresh also have Chicken Nuggets, Corned Chicken, Juicy Liempo and Super Leg. Interestingly, they are also the sister company of the 900++ roast chicken chain stations of Chooks-to-Go famous for the ‘masarap kahit walang sauce’ flavor.

Chooks-To-Go

Bounty Fresh Brand Marketing Group Head Patricia Cheng further elaborates that “from the day Bounty Fresh Foods was established in 1996, the company has always been committed in providing clean and fresh chicken and chicken-related products…[whose] standard of quality are met at all times.

Bounty Fresh’s Group Marketing Manager Dondi Alentajan adds that  their unique processing methods include triple washing carefully grown chickens (first of its kind). Vacuum-packing is done immediately to preserve the freshness and flavour with “world-class vacuum packing process.”
