Wine Wednesdays @ The Wine Museum

It was a night of great wine and good company as we met some of the people behind the Philippine Wine Merchants. The gathering, called “Wine Wednesdays“, was a prelude to the soon-to-be-held 16th Grand Wine Experience happening at the Grand Ballroom of Marriott Manila.

It was my first time at The Wine Museum. When I first heard about the venue, I thought it was really a “museum“. But it’s actually a restaurant / bar. No where near disappointment, its large collection of different wines in one bar justified the name, nonetheless. Add to that the fact that the office and storage facility of the Philippine Wine Merchants is also behind The Wine Museum.

That ‘Wine Wednesdays‘ night gathered some of my wine enthusiast friends. Although an admitted social-only wine-drinker, I must say I enjoyed the night. It was not easy, but it was a “noble” one as we test-tasted a number of branded wines and spirits in one night.

Among the featured wines and spirits included Hennessy XO, Johnnie Walker Red and Johnnie Walker Black, Glenmorangie 10yo, Patron Tequila Silver, Alfonso Light, Camus VSOP, Montes Cab Sauv, Montes Chardonnay, Montgras Reserva Carmenere, Yalumba Y Series Chardonnay, and crowd-favorite Gossips Moscato Sweet Lips. and more.

I must say however, that the Guntrum Riesling, Stolichnaya Red was my fancy that night. The taste was different and edgy; it was something that I would like to try again when I go back to The Wine Museum. Among the presentations, the folks from Johnnie Walker took the cake as they included a cocktail-mixing demonstration using Johnnie Walker Red and Johnnie Walker Black.

16th Grand Wine Experience

Now, moving on to the highlight of the night, the 16th Grand Wine Experience is touted to be the “most illustrious wine event in South East Asia“. With over 500 wines and spirits to choose from and a buffet as lavish as it is endless, wine aficionados will bask in the majesty of the country’s most prestigious and most extravagant wine and spirits event.

It will be beyond the usual wine dinner as the grand scale of overflowing wines and spirits will be matched with a sumptuous buffet of food for your wine-pairing fantasy that can only be fulfilled in this one-of-a-kind affair. The value-for-money tickets are available at the price of P5,000 per person.

The organizer, Philippine Wine Merchants (PWM), was founded in 1975 by the Joseph brothers who had successfully run the business becoming one of the biggest wine importers and distributors in the country with strong market presence in both on-premise and off-premise sales.
