Filipinos are generally forgiving. They can spare a celebrity with a scandal or even re-elect a toppled and convicted president. To put it simply, we are a race tolerant to those who oppress us. And this culture is carried over in our everyday life and in the simple things we do.

Wobbly Table
In particular, I believe most of us have experienced at least once in our life, a wobbly table while dining in a restaurant. Others call it a ‘shaky table’ or an ‘unsteady table’. By whatever name it goes, it causes an uncomfortable dining experience or a spilled coffee.
You say that’s easy, just step on the table base to balance it and viola! However, you just have to hold your position until everyone finishes their meal.
A more innovative approach involves folding a piece of paper and tuck it into one of the table legs. Problem solved. Well, that is so until the paper is pushed away, the next customer comes in, and the routine experience repeats all over. What do you know, the lucky you may encounter the same table in your next visit! 🙂

Step on the Table Base Solution
I say this has to stop.
As food bloggers, a dining customer’s experience nowadays goes beyond the good food. I would like to think that a bad wobbly table experience count in the ambiance category, to say the least, until the plate slides to the floor or the tea spills to your lap.
So what do we do?
As paying customers, you should at least raise the concern with the restaurant manager with regards to your issue. You may also respectfully ask for a replacement of your coffee or tea, if the restaurant would deem appropriate, which they would most likely do.
In the US, immediate replacement of  a spilled beverage caused by the restaurant’s wobbly table is necessary. Customers can even sue the restaurant for possible damages caused by the incident, say, important documents or gadgets that got wet on the table during the incident.
If these happened to you, how would you react?

Spilled Coffee care of an Unsteady Table?
I appreciate restaurants nowadays who offer alternative mediums for feedback from customers such as sending a text message to a certain mobile number like the one in Italianni’s and its sister restaurants within the Bistro Group. Indeed, you would taste the love, not only in the food, but also in the experience.
I hope other restaurants would also be as conscious of their customer’s experience, in particular with the wobbly tables, as the high-end ones. After all, they would want their customers to have a good dining experience in their restaurants, right?
Until when do we tolerate a primitive problem like wobbly tables? If the restaurant can forego a simple problem of shaking, how much effort do you think are they putting in preparing your food?

Choco-Chip Pancakes
I have to admit, I’m not a morning person; but I always try to be one for health purposes. So when KFC Philippines made a surprise delivery of their Fully Loaded Breakfast Meals at about 10 am this morning, they woke me up to my liking. 🙂
I’m a night person so I sleep late and expectedly get up late as well. But for office people on the go who have to go to the office from 8 am to 5 pm, they have to be morning people. Just the other day, I had to wake up at 330 am to catch the day 1 of the Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Festival 2013 in Clark.
And it’s good that KFC gives us additional options to power-up their day with their new KFC Fully Loaded Breakfast Meals. As they say, breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
KFC A.M. Breakfast /Fully Loaded Meals
First in line is the Filipino Breakfast FLM which includes chicken longganisa, chicken tocino slices, garlic rice, scrambled egg, and soft chocolate chip pancakes with maple syrup and whipped butter. It also comes with free coffee.
Second is the Breakfast Steak FLM (top photo) which includes your favorite original recipe chicken fillet with steak sauce, garlic rice, scrambled egg, and chocolate chip pancakes like the one above plus free coffee.
These two new Fully Loaded Meals joins the Longganisa Burger and A.M.Snacker in the KFC A.M. Breakfast range which is served until 10 am (9 am for delivery).

KFC Filipino Breakfast Fully Loaded Meal: Chicken Longganisa, Chicken Tocino slices, Garlic Rice, Scrambled Egg, and Chocolate Chip Pancakes with maple syrup and whipped butter, free Coffee

KFC A.M.: KFC Fully Loaded Breakfast Meals
Verdict
As mentioned above, it immediately became my actual breakfast at home this morning. :) Both are tummy-filling and good-tasting but the Filipino Breakfast FLM gets my recommendation if I needed to choose only one. It satisfies my craving for a Filipino breakfast not just with one, but two iconic Filipino breakfast symbols – the longganisa and tocino! Add to that the aromatic garlic rice, scrambled egg, and the filling pancakes.
I love the pancakes as well, they’re not your ordinary regular pancakes, they have chocolate chips hidden at the back which can surprise yet again the unfamiliar. 🙂 Make sure you consume them hot just like any other pancakes or you’ll end up disappointed. I hold half of the maple syrup and whipped butter for health purposes though.
Price
Both the Filipino Breakfast and Breakfast Steak Fully Loaded Meals are priced at P105. Value-wise, it is a good deal, a street-wise deal perhaps since the set is really ‘loaded‘.
You may also have it delivered via 887-8888 KFC Delivery (Metro Manila) or through their website KFCdelivery.com.ph. Follow them at Twiiter @KFCPhilippines and Faceboook at /KFCPhilippines.

Alpenliebe
The surprise came in as eccentric as the name of my new found eclair candy brand – Alpenliebe. It was delivered to our place in a sweet wooden bucket full of Alpenliebe candies in two flavors – Caramel Cream and Strawberry Cream.
At this point, I’m still not too sure how it is pronounced. But the foreign sounding name is due to the fact that Alpenliebe is from the same makers of Mentos and Chupa Chups, which we are more familiar with in the Philippines. It is from Perfetti Van Melle.
If ever you receive such a surprise package, what would you do with it?

Alpenliebe Candies (Caramel & Strawberry)

Alpenliebe – Caramel Flavor
Of course, you try out the flavors, which I did. Among the two flavors, I liked the Caramel more although the Strawberry (top photo) is also ok. Both are milk-based deposited candies which is already available in Italy as far back as 1984.
I think Alpenliebe candy éclairs will do well in the Philippines since Filipinos have a penchant for sweet things like chocolates and varied desserts. In the Philippines, they come in bags of 50s at a friendly price I’ll reveal soon.

Gino Quillamor hosted the event last Jan.31 at the new J.CO branch in Eastwood City
Finally, J.CO Donuts in Eastwood City had its much awaited grand opening last week with the prestige of being the largest branch and soon-to-be the first 24/7 store.

Sadly, me and my fiance had to miss the opening as it coincides with our pre-nup shoot at Pico De Loro in Nasugbu, Batangas. Nonetheless, J.CO donuts lovers will have another reason not to miss their delectable donuts paired with freshly brewed Italian coffee or healthy J.COOL frozen yogurt treats anytime.
The special media event was also graced by J.CO Donuts and Coffee founder Johnny Andrean who flew in from Jakarta to witness firsthand the growing appreciation J.CO in the Philippines.
The 7th and largest J.CO branch in the Philippines also welcomed JCO executives Mr. Oszen Chan – President, CFI; Mr. Carlos Chan – Chairman, CFI; Mr. Edgar Sia – Vice Chairman, CFI; Mr. Kevin Tan – First Vice President and Division Head, Megaworld Commercial Division, Megaworld;. Moreover, guests were treated to a hands-on making of J.CO’s bestselling donuts – Green Tease, Oreology and Al Capone. In a friendly competition, each guest was tasked to pick a donut of his or her choice then pair it with a beverage to come up with the best “Pair Me Up†donut and coffee combination. Guess what, JM Bueno of Kumagcow.com won that activity which entitled him to free donuts for the entire year.
The first J.CO Philippines branch opened in SM Megamall last year and is now also found SM Mall of Asia, J.CO Greenbelt 2, Alabang Town Center, SM Fairview, Trinoma Mall, and now J.CO Eastwood City.

Jalapenos and more!
No, this is not an advance Valentine’s Day post. It has nothing to do with Valentine’s Day, actually. 🙂 The Bistro Group of restaurants, known for their international and casual dining brands, has just launched their latest campaign called “Taste the Love.”
Taste the Love is not a promo per se, it’s about inviting diners to taste the love behind their every restaurant concept launched. The campaign celebrates a series of milestones for The Bistro Group including:
- the opening of 50 restaurants spread across the 12 resto concepts
- the appointment of Corporate Chef Josh Boutwood
- the launch of its Premiere Card.

Together with the arrival of Chef Boutwood is the launch of new dishes as well. Among the favorites in the list are Sesame Teriyaki Chicken Wings, the Fully Loaded Sweet Potato Skins (Village Tavern), and the a la carte Katsu Menu (Ma Maison). NomNom Club‘s favorite is the Black Pizza (black due to the squid ink mixed with the dough), also from Village Tavern.

‘Taste the Love‘ from all the Bistro Group of Restaurants starting this 2013! I wonder what other upcoming deals, menu items, and treats they will dish out soon?

He’s back home. Coco Martin, although busy taping for his latest and upcoming teleserye at ABS-CBN called “Juan Dela Cruz“, found his way back to a family where he was once a part of – Max’s Restaurant.

Max’s Restaurant Presscon with “Juan Dela Cruz”
Not known to many, Coco Martin once served Max’s Fried Chicken dishes to customers in one of Max’s Restaurant branches, specifically at SM Fairview, back in 2001.
Even before his big break in showbiz, he has been getting cameo roles and modeling stints. While still making ends meet, it all started when he was offered to audition in ABS-CBN with Johnny Manahan through a talent-scout whom he met at Max’s Restaurant. 12 years after, he now serves as the celebrity endorser of the well-loved brand – Max’s Restaurant.

Philippine Celebrity Coco Martin
Since late last year, you would have seen several ‘Coco Martin‘ standees in all Max’s Restaurant branches.

Coco accepting Max’s memorabillas
In a recent press con, it was asked what happens to Piolo Pascual then? After 7 years of being Max’s main celebrity endorser, Piolo remains to be part of the Max’s family. As a Max’s officer mentioned, their endorsers don’t just come and go after a contract, they just “grow their family.” Celebrating their 70th year in two years, who knows, a reunion among Max’s celebrity endorsers might even be possible.
Start of Something New
This is only the start. You might have seen his introductory Max’s TV commercial back in November 2012. This will be followed by a series, the first of which will come out by the end of February or early March of this year. The series focuses on Coco’s relationship with the brand slowly unfolding the ‘connection.’
“Pag dumating ang pinaka-love mo, ang sarap!“, exclaims Coco Martin.

Max’s Chicken – Coco Martin Ad
But more than the ‘yummy‘ smile girls giggle over, you would see through Coco’s words and actions. You can see his sincerity and support for the brand that he knows very well by heart and you will feel his humble spirit in joining back a family he once was with  that is Max’s.

Filipinos greet the new year with new hope and a fresh perspective. As they say, ‘out‘ with the old, and ‘in‘ with the new. As per Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) , it’s “shred the usual, try out the new.” KFC introduces something new, exactly today – January 11, 2013, a not-the-usual chicken sandwich they call KFC BBQ Shredder Sandwich.

KFC BBQ Shredder Sandwich
I mentioned that it’s unusual (in a good way) because, as the title suggests, the KFC BBQ Shredder Sandwich has chicken shreds instead or your regular chicken burger.
KFC BBQ Shredder Sandwich
I found it bizarre at first, but I immediately approved of it at first bite. Tucked in between the soft Kaiser buns are tender chicken shreds with smoky barbecue sauce and some lettuce. Open the top bun and a little surprise would be two tortilla chips laid on top, perhaps to provide a contrasting crispy texture to the soft chicken flakes (just make sure you get ’em hot-served).

Price
At P55 solo, I say it’s a good price; add fries and drink for P85.
“The BBQ Shredder Sandwich is a fun and unusual take on the chicken sandwich. With it, KFC hopes to inspire people to make changes in their daily lives – no matter how small. It could be as easy as shredding your usual choice and trying out this new sandwich,†says Natalie Perez, Marketing Director of KFC Philippines.

KFC Shredder Sandwich Cross Section
If you are looking for something new and beyond the usual, I highly recommend the KFC BBQ Shredder Sandwich. I hope KFC makes it a permanent part of their menu. It was a quick trip from SM Megamall to Julia Vargas corner Meralco Avenue going to Renaissance Condominium. After parking, we found ourselves at its 2nd floor inside Citrus Restaurant & Deli upon invitation of the owner through common friend.
The interiors of Citrus Restaurant was classical-posh but laid back. If you value your privacy, Â a quaint location as such is great.

Citrus Restaurant and Deli
Interestingly, they also have an exclusive second floor with a mock-up fireplace that also serves a wine cellar for expensive wines ranging in the hundreds of thousands.
Citrus House Specialties
Now for the food. More than the usual tapas, I highly recommend their house specialties Jaunita’s Callos and Lengua with mashed potatoes which is surprisingly affordable at P259 and P200++ only, respectively.

Juanita’s Callos

Lengua with mashed potatoes
The callos was flavorful and cooked just right as if it was done by a lovely chef mom at home. The lengua was tender and exceeded my expectations.
The food was served without unnecessary fancy decorations either but I noticed the elegant and irregularly shaped white plates fit for the 2-person serving dish.

Citrus Main Dishes
From their main dishes, we got to try the Pan-Fried Fish ala Vera Cruz. Quite a long name, but it was no disappointment either at only P199.
This was followed by the Spaghetti Bolognese (P199) and a double-sized thin-crust pizza. I also shared a Vanilla milkshake with my fiance who loves anything sweet. 😛

Desserts and More
Finally, some baked potato chips and a delectable Panna Cotta (top photo) concluded our dinner affair. I thought I was already used to the low prices but the P59 panna cotta was simply unexpected.

Citrus Promos
They also have a P999 promo offering 1 bottle of wine + all you can eat tapas-tapas. Or the Drink All You Can Jack Daniel’s for P949. Night chillers can also get free tapas-tapas for every 10 bottles of beer.
If you’re looking for an eclectic flair that would match your tapas, they have live bands playing with a different concept every night of the week.
They open up as early as 7am and offers breakfast, salad, and a wide range of pizza collection. Beverage range include soda and juices starting at P40 and P60, respectively. Beer starts at P50.

Pizza
Aside from great food, I highly recommend Citrus Restaurant as a very ideal place for dating with its intimate and sophisticated ambiance; not to mention the friendly prices for guys on a tight budget. 🙂

Citrus Restaurant as Bar
I definitely have to be back at Citrus Restaurant soon and try more of their new world cuisines on the menu; perhaps at the wine cellar on the 2nd level next.
