November 10th, 2010 — Affairs, Promos / Events, Top Commenters of the Month
Last September 4, 2010, during the advanced celebration of NomNomClub’s first anniversary at Greenwich in SM North, we announced the regular monthly contest for the top commenter in this blog.
For this first two months of September and October, I have decided to award it to two for each month, instead of the regular one (1).
A ‘Top Commenter of the Month‘ is someone who is able to place the most number of sensible (related to article and not spam) comments in NomNom Club food blog within the respective month.

September Top Commenters of the Month
For October, the top commenters are Rey Jr. and Iya Santos, respectively. Rey Jr., commented on the list of NomNom’s Emerging Influential Blogs while Iya raved about Gino’s Eats and Beats, among other articles.

November 5th, 2010 — 6750, Affairs, Beverage, Casual, Coffee Shops, Cravings, Dessert, Makati, New Brews, Promos / Events, Restaurants, Sweet Shops, Where To Eat
It’s Christmas! And NomNom Club starts it with Starbucks Christmas Cheers Party!

Starbucks Cheers Party
The Starbucks Christmas-themed beverages and Starbucks Christmas-themed food items are back! Last November 3, 2010, the 6750 branch in Makati held the first Starbucks Cheers Party this year for their loyal customers and patrons from 6-8pm.

Starbucks Peppermint Mocha
Starbucks Christmas Beverages
We enjoyed sample servings of Toffee Nut Latte, Praline Mocha, and Peppermint Mocha.
If you miss the Christmassy feeling, try the Peppermint Mocha. The minty aftertaste, rich chocolate, smooth espresso and velvety steamed milk would reassure you of the season’s atmosphere. It is topped with whipped cream and red sugar sprinkles.

Starbucks Toffee Nut Latte
The Toffee Nut Latte on the other hand has the buttery flavor of sweet toffee combined with toasted nuts.
Also blended with smooth espresso and steamed milk, it is topped with whipped cream and toffee-flavored sprinkles.
Praline Mocha is similarly prepared but accented by hazelnut syrup and topped with mocha sauce drizzle.
My favorites though are Toffee Nut Latte and Praline Mocha; in that order.

Starbucks Christmas Red Cups

Starbucks Coupons
Similar to last year, guests were given Cheer Party cards with coupons. It has a raffle stub, planner promo card, photo booth pic, 10%off on Starbucks merchandise / Starbucks VIA ReadyBrew, and a complimentary tall beverage.

Acapella Manila
Although I did not win in the raffle draws, I got to taste a wide array of the Starbucks Christmas-themed food items while the Acapella Manila choir serenaded us with popular Christmas songs.
Here are photos of Starbucks guests and friends in the recent Starbucks Christmas Cheers Party:

- Nov 19 – Starbucks Katipunan (6-8pm)

Bounty Fresh
Bounty Fresh Chicken recently invited NomNom in their first online product launch and quad-media day at Chef’s Table Restaurant at Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City.
A Filipino-owned supplier of leading chicken products, Bounty Fresh aims to providing quality poultry produce to Filipinos. In fact, their president Mr. Tennyson Chen recently won the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2010 award. Moreover, they bagged the 2009 Asian Livestock Award for best practices as Asia’s Best in the broiler integrator category.
The Programme

Ms. Patricia Cheng, Ms. Kathy Gomez and Meg Entrata (inset)
The program started with welcome remarks from host Meg Entrata. Some games including Pinoy Henyo about chicken brought entertainment to the crowd while a raffles was also conducted in the end.
There was also an AVP presentation by Bounty Fresh Brand Marketing Group Head Patricia Cheng on Bounty Fresh’s history.
It was followed by a brand talk by Bounty Fresh Assistant Brand Manager for Processed Meat & Fresh Chicken Kathy Gomez.
All these with free Wi-Fi and free-flowing coffee and tea.
Of Chicken & Health

Chicken Recipes
Aside from the awesome chicken dishes prepared by Chef’s Table Chef Bruce Lim, I found the Wellness Talk by renowned & respected nutritionist Joan Sumpio RND very interesting.
I often see regular and vacuum-packed chickens at the grocery or at the kitchen as prepared by my mom. But I just regard them as the same and considers the latter as more expensive in exchange for the extra safety having been ‘pre-packed‘.
It turns out that there is more to it with vacuum packs than just safety.
Wellness Talk

Ms. Joan Sumpio RND
As former head of the Dietary Department in University of Santo Tomas Hospital, Ms. Sumpio pointed out the benefits of vaccum-packed dressed chicken:
- Fresh – Chicken is stored in an air-free environment that keeps it fresh always
- Delicious – The chicken’s natural flavor and juice are preserved
- Safe – The pack keeps chicken away from harmful bacteria that migrates from other foods and those coming from the external air
- Longer-Lasting – It can have as much as 5x its normal refrigerated shelf life.
That’s something new to me and I think every mom and foodies should know as well.
Moreover, she mentioned in her talk that chicken is an excellent source of protein (from meat), phosphorous (chicken head), selenium, and vitamin B3 (liver part) & B6. Add to that manageable amount of fat, calcium, iron, beta-Carotene (vitamin A), Vitamin B1, and Vitamin B2. Healthy weapons we need these days against cancer, diabetes, heart disease, malnutrition, and osteoporosis.
“It’s about time, you think about good foods for your health and not just simply looking for delicious dishes…it’s chicken,” adds Ms. Sumpio “Chicken is one of the most versatile and healthy ingredient we can include in our meals.”

Chicken Menu Calendar shows Chicken DIsh Versatility
She ended the nutrition talk with a funny acronym of CHICKEN: Choosing Healthy Ingredients for Cooking & Knowing the Essentials in Nutrition. It was indeed an enlightening realization of the importance of chicken meat, nutrition and finding the right product in the market.
The Bounty Fresh Chicken Dishes
Of course, this blogpost will not end without featuring some of the chicken dishes we had in the Bounty Fresh event.
TV celebrity gourmet Chef Bruce Lim prepared some delicious and healthy chicken meals for the guests. He also demonstrated some of his well-loved chicken recipes such as the Chicken Pandan.

According to Chef Bruce, Chef’s Table Restaurant itself uses Bounty Fresh chicken for their chicken dishes which include whole dressed chicken and chicken cut-ups (for Chicken Tinola).
Bounty Fresh also have Chicken Nuggets, Corned Chicken, Juicy Liempo and Super Leg. Interestingly, they are also the sister company of the 900++ roast chicken chain stations of Chooks-to-Go famous for the ‘masarap kahit walang sauce’ flavor.

Chooks-To-Go
Bounty Fresh Brand Marketing Group Head Patricia Cheng further elaborates that “from the day Bounty Fresh Foods was established in 1996, the company has always been committed in providing clean and fresh chicken and chicken-related products…[whose] standard of quality are met at all times.
Bounty Fresh’s Group Marketing Manager Dondi Alentajan adds that their unique processing methods include triple washing carefully grown chickens (first of its kind). Vacuum-packing is done immediately to preserve the freshness and flavour with “world-class vacuum packing process.”

Check them out on their website http://bountyfreshchicken.com/ and Facebook – http://www.facebook.com/pages/Bounty-Fresh-Chicken/43041273378 as well.
They also had celebrity Lea Salonga as their latest endorser. With Lea and Chef Bruce, they further indeed symbolize Bounty Fresh as Asia’s Best Chicken.

Yoyo Cafe
Whew, it has already been a week since my last food blog. This is mainly caused by my preparations even before my leave of absence which started Friday – I went to Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, Malaysia.
Yes, I just got back to the Philippines and is still fresh from the airport.

Ice Cream 'Potong'
Before I proceed with the day, I would just like to let you know that I’m still alive and eating. 🙂 And due to my recent trip to Kota Kinabalu, expect a number of Malaysian cuisine features for the upcoming months of November and December.

October 10th, 2010 — Affairs, Casual, Cravings, Greenbelt 1, Makati, Promos / Events, Restaurants, Where To Eat
Wendy’s Greenbelt was the 4th Wendy’s branch that opened in the Philippines in 1986. It got renovated in 1991, and then again in 2004.
If you do dine at this branch near the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) like I do, you would indeed realize that it was time for a renovation.

Wendy's Greenbelt Renovated New Look
So when the construction was finished last July, it was a refreshing change; a neater look. A necessary one that has been calling out from the four corners of the old branch.
It is indeed a good news to Wendy’s patrons. Last September 30, Wendy’s held a grand launch which involved treats for the customers, games and festive activities including pintados, photo booths, Wendy’ Girl mascot, children activities, and the Buganda percussion band that usually performs for Gary Valenciano’s concerts.

Wendy's Salad
A blessing of the store was also officiated by Rev. Fr. Boogie from Greenbelt Chapel.

Wendy's Baconator Mexican Melt
Of course, the event would not be without food and I had my favorites Wendy’s salad and Frosty. I also had their new Baconator Mexican Melt which boasts of “two 2 ¼ lb. beef patties, 6 strips of bacon, a slice of American cheese topped with cheese sauce and jalapeño pepper and served on a warm kaiser buns.”
I got an instant flashback of my hamburger eating contest about a year ago. 🙂
Surprisingly, Wendy’s Philippines operations manager also mentioned that there is a considerable number of women who order the Baconator! We also had a peek at their kitchen where he showed us their fresh never-frozen 100% pure beef square patties.

Wendy's Square Beef Patties
As a quick-service restaurant, Wendy’s sees a bright year ahead and beyond and as they convert more stores with this new look and open up more branches.
