And the Starbucks Planner 2011 Winners are…

Thank you all for participating in this year’s Starbucks Planner 2011 Giveaway Contests. First on the writing contest, and next on the FB photo-comment contest. 🙂

Pardon the slight delay in the announcement as I had to validate and filter for the unique comments in the photo entries in which one even had an awesome 1,029 comments. On the other hand, reading through your Christmas stories with the theme of ‘sharing‘ was also heartwarming. Many entries were very creative as well.

I also invited Sebs Yu from  Marriage Journeys blogsite to be a co-judge in the “Share Your Stories.”. So we averaged our scores and came up with the winner based on the criteria.

Share Your Stories Winner

Starbucks Share Your Stories

Without further adieu, the winner of the the Share Your Stories writing contest with an average score of 88.5% is “Thinking April” with her blog post entitles “Last Christmas.” It was her personal story of sharing and letting go of old things albeit with sentimental value. Congratulations! You will receive a Starbucks 2011 Planner soon!

Following her in second and third place with a tie score of 84.5% are “Sharing  This Christmas Season” from Make Melodies and Snicker Ho Hum.

And for the Photo-Comment entries, the greatest number of comments we had was 1,029. But since we are looking for the unique number of comments, we had to validate and trim them down.

The winner, who had originally 146 comments, and after validation was filtered to 110 unique comment entries is the photo by Jian Marla Reyes. Congratulations! You also receive a Starbucks 2011 Planner!

In second and third places are Krismer Acuesta who had 78 unique comments out of 298 and Joanne Garces Gonzales with 71 unique comments out of 1, 029. (all values include the +5 in comment to Digital Manila)

Thank you to all for participating! The two winners will get an FB message and/or email to get their snail mail addresses where the Starbucks 2011 Planner will be sent by Starbucks.

As a gesture of appreciation, I would like to invite the Top 3 Share Your Stories winners and Top 3 Photo-Comment winners to a simple merienda gathering at Spuds (Potato Corner brand) at the Ayala Columns condominium in front of RCBC bldg in Makati at the intersection of Buendia and Ayala Ave on 2pm of December 28, 2010. Kindy email me at admin AT NomNomClub.com to RSVP. Thanks! I’m off to Batangas tonight and will be offline until then. Will be back in Manila on Dec 26. Expect my email replies after that date. 🙂

Hear Ye, Hear Ye! Introducing the NomNom Foodie Club!

Exactly one month away from NomNom Club‘s first year anniversary, we’re officially announcing the establishment of NomNom Foodie Club! 🙂

Actually, it has been open to the anyone (public) with the link located at the header of every page. We are now at 70+ foodie members and counting.

NomNom Foodie Club is the community-based arm of NomNomClub.com food blog. I have also decided to take out the prior membership classifications to prevent biases. Although it was intended to facilitate group organization and effective communication, I think it is better off this way at this point in time (ang serious!). 🙂

The establishment of NomNom Foodie Club is part of the blog administrators plan of slowly opening up this blog to become community-based in the next two years; and eventually having the foodie club SEC (gov’t) registered if circumstances permit. For the short term, we could be having you guys guest blog! 🙂

I foresee a lot more potential with our foodie community like possible taste tests for new products, food group activities, and even themed food tours!

If you are a foodie and thinks that you can contribute to our community, please Register Here. It’s open to any foodies from anywhere in the world.

As a final note, I would like to invite all our members to reserve their Saturday afternoon on September 04, 2010 to celebrate NomNomClub’s 1st Year anniversary 5 days in advance with NomNom Foodie Club’s first Get Together! We are most probably having it in one of Greenwich Pizza branches in Metro Manila, Philippines. Talks are underway with concerned sponsors as of this moment (advance Thank You to Greenwich; woot!).

Thank you for supporting NomNom Club!

NomNomClub Foodie Member Wins Jollibee Eclipse Tumbler & Block Movie Screening

So what is an Eclipse movie post doing in NomNomClub?

It’s because Jollibee recently sponsored an Eclipse Block Screening in Podium Mall in its first day of showing. At the same time, NomNomClub had a private contest for its foodie club members.

Marizen: NomNom Foodie Club Winner

Marizel Villamora won the short contest which was posted in NomNom Club FB fanpage.

We met at the cinema venue, where she got the ticket and the Jollibee Eclipse promo meal with the Eclipse tumbler of her choice. The three main character’s faces are on the tumblers: Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), and Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner).

Aside from the fact that The Twilight Saga: Eclipse was better than its predecessors mainly because there were more action (personal view), I believe Marizel enjoyed the whole experience as well.

Thank you to Jollibee for the invites. If you are a Twilight Saga / Eclipse fanatic, you may get those limited edition tumblers with any Jollibee Burger Meal or Hotdog Value Meal by adding P25.  If 1 tumbler is not enough, get 3 tumblers with any purchase of Jollibee Barkada Meal for P275; which also comes in a special themed box. 🙂

““Less Worry, More Healthy” with Golden Fiesta Palm Oil

With the plethora of cooking oil in the market nowadays, regular consumers can get confused just with the number of options alone.

I’ve always highly regarded the use of olive oil. But if you’re a little tight on the budget, Golden Fiesta Palm Oil can be an affordable alternative.

Similarly for actress and wife Dawn Zulueta, cooking for her family is one of the things she loves to do. This was after her husband, Davao del Norte Rep. Anton Lagdameo, actually taught her how to cook. 🙂

“When I was still single I didn’t really know how to cook. I didn’t have time to learn because I would just sleep or relax after work,” says Dawn, who used to lead a busy life as a TV and movie actress.

Golden Fiesta Palm Oil & Actress Dawn Zulueta

In her latest TV commercial (TVC), Dawn can be seen using Golden Fiesta Palm Oil in cooking, saying that she gets “less worry, more healthy”.

“I love Golden Fiesta Palm Oil because it’s definitely a healthier alternative to other cooking oil. We Filipinos love fried food so it’s best to choose a product that is safe and healthy,” adds Dawn.

So what’s in it?

Golden Fiesta Palm Oil is made from 100 percent premium quality refined palm oil and contains Omega9.

This is surely good news specially to those who love fried foods or to mothers who fry foods for their children; be it French fries, fried chicken, burgers, or cooking healthy stir-fried vegetables.

Moreover, it was made more affordable a few months ago. Golden Fiesta Palm Oil one-liter packs and two-liter packs are now at P15* and P30* (*suggested) less than their original suggested retail price, respectively.

It’s not all work. Being the 2nd largest food company in the world, Kraft Foods Philippines also encourages their employees to enhance their other skills such as photography.

With this in mind, 15-20 of their employees were trained under renowned photographer Jay Alonzo through a 3-day photography workshop.

Jollibee Makes A Cameo in Glee?

The online community is abuzz since yesterday about the said fastfood chain cameo appearance of Jollibee in the latest episode of the American hit TV series Glee.

===================================

May 19, 2010 – 1pm UPDATE

The video of Jollibee appearing in Glee is now out proving the authenticity of the photo above. Apparently, it appeared much more than once. 🙂

Here is the embedded video from Yahoo Video

==================================

Jollibee is considered to be the biggest fast food chain in the country. It has also branches / stores in other countries including the United States of America which makes the cameo appearance not impossible.

I checked out the sources of the photo and it led me to this (with a more specific post here) and this.

Aside from the question of  the photo’s original source, its authenticity is more important. As this blog pointed out:

“But is this for real?” – quoted from Technogra.ph

If it is, it can be an effective viral marketing strategy for Jollibee (like what’s happening now) especially that the said American TV series Glee is a big hit nowadays to the younger generation both locally in the Philippines and abroad.

On a completely off-topic side note (except that the two mentioned fast food chains are industry competitiors), NomNomClub has a new McDonald‘s ad on the header and below this article. Feel free to check it out especially if you are a CATS musical fan looking forward to watch the Cats Now and Forever Musical here in the Philippines. 🙂

So how about you, what do you think? Is this screen shot of  Jollibee in Glee TV series that is currently circulating around the web for real?

A Sunday Morning of Kitchenomics and Healthy Cravings

My Sunday was spent lazily at home. Being very busy for so long as I can remember, it has been months since the last time I spent the whole day lounging around the house and doing nothing. It was a healthy welcome respite.

I got to catch up with some cooking shows and foodie features on cable TV, and surf the net that’s not part of work. 🙂

Healthy Cravings with Iza Calzado & Chef Jeremy Favia on QTV

Healthy Cravings with Iza Calzado & Chef Jeremy Favia on QTV

What interestingly took my attention was the local ‘Healthy Cravings‘ show with Iza Calzado and Chef Jeremy Favia on QTV yesterday morning. They featured a salad concoction using the regular pechay instead of the usual iceberg lettuce. Pechay turns out to have more nutrition value than its counterpart, more affordable, and readily available.

The cooking shows tickled my long-time fancy as a chef. When the show was over, I hungered for more and checked out the internet which led me to the foodie site Kitchenomics.com. The site provided relevant information for chef wannabes like me or moms looking for affordable and nutritious meals for their families.

I suddenly remembered mom who always made sure weekend family meals are made extra-special because everyone’s at home; the family was complete.

Ok, this is a foodie blog, not a personal blog. 🙂 Enough of the drama, back to Kitchenomics. 🙂

Kitchenomics Tips and Resources

Kitchenomics Tips and Resources

The site also offered membership where benefits include access to Del Monte Kitchenomics’ library of practical and delicious meals. And just like being members of NomNom Club, Kitchenomics members would be the first to know of exclusive events and promos – something I think that really ‘clicks‘ nowadays. 🙂

Kitchenomics.com 'Submit A Recipe'

Kitchenomics.com 'Submit A Recipe'

Further exploring the website reveals features which facilitates interaction with other foodies by sharing recipes, tips, and expert culinary resources. My favorite though is the Kitchen Tools and Equipments section because it can serve as my reference for kitchen equipments whose names I always forget. 🙂

Kitchen Tools and Equipments

Enough of the watching and the reading. Putting these gathered foodie knowledge from Kitchenomics.com into action would be a good agenda for the upcoming long holy weekend where I’ll be stuck at home. 🙂
