After Jamba Juice Bonifacio High Street opened in the Philippines last year, Manila is now its biggest market in Asia. It is no surprise then that they immediately opened their second branch in the Philippines (first store in the south) at the Alabang Town Center earlier this month.
Jamba Juice ATC Interiors
Brief Background
Jamba Juice is known for its all-natural smoothies and juices sourcing high quality fruits from around the globe.
Originating from California since the 1900s and making it big in South Korea, Jamba Juice has been brought to the Philippines by one of the largest food chains in the Philippines. It is the same one who’s behind the Max’s Group of Companies including Max’s Restaurant and Krispy Kreme – the Fuentabellas.
It’s not surprising then that the Jamba Juice ATC branch is situated right beside Krispy Kreme Alabang Town Center.

The opening program of the ATC branch started with members of the Max’s Group of Companies welcoming Jamba Juice’s President and CEO Mr. James D. White and Global & Franchise Development and Senior VP Mr. Thibault De Chatellus.
They were greeted with a parade of cheers and placards showcasing the core ideals behind the Jamba Juice brand.
The festivities matched the energy and excitement symbolic of the product and its health benefits.
Here are some of the photos we got from the celebrations:

“Alabang is a great model for a district that exudes a dynamic lifestyle…known for being the hometown of cyclists—an example of the active lifestyle market that Jamba Juice has successfully served in California for many years,†adds Mark Gamboa, Jamba Juice Philippines Marketing Director.
Press Conference
Together with a select group of media, we then had a more private presscon with the aforementioned officers and Jamba Juice Philippines Managing Director Ms. Sharon Fuentebella.
Jamba Juice Smoothies Fever!
Ms. Sharon Fuentebella (Jamba Juice Ph Managing Director) in the press conference
They revealed in the interview that Jamba Juice Philippines will continue to effectively position its growth now that Manila is considered the biggest market in Asia. They also hihglighted that they intended to open their second branch in the south to cater to the big market which more often than not is neglected by some brands in terms of immediate expansion.
The Fuentabellas also disclosed that further expansion in other parts of Metro Manila is in the pipeline with the third branch opening soon in SM Mall of Asia.

Watch out for Jamba Juice’s third branch soon in SM Mall of Asia! With the large market in that area, I believe Jamba Juice SM Mall of Asia will easily be a hit as well.
Bon Chon, Chicken Charlie, and now – Chicken Delish! I made sure to check out this humble stall at the recently concluded Best Food Forward food fair held at NBC Tent in Bonifacio Global City over the weekend.
Chicken Delish
The foremost reason is because Chicken Delish owner Annalyn Jusay-Zoglmann pimped it out to me. 🙂 She is fellow blogger as well so I was curious on what she came up with since her sole (so far) and actual branch in Paranaque is beyond my reach.
Chicken Delish Sauces
It’s one of those home-style fried chicken made more special with its tasty sauces such as the sweet and spicy sauce, Pinoy barbecue, sriracha(Thai hot sauce mixed with butter and honey), Pinoy buffalo, and the good old salt and pepper. While still being improved, her bestsellers are the sweet and spicy sauce which was not surprising with Filipino customers.
For my part, I tried it with the sweet sauce last Saturday and was satisfied. The meat was still tender and juicy even if it was late in the afternoon already. The chapchae side dish I chose was also good even by itself. Hopefully I can try it with the Pinoy barbecue sauce soon.
Annalyn says that she was serving her gourmet-style fried chicken to her family even before the bonchon craze hit the metro. ” Chicken is something every member of my family loves and experimenting on the many ways to cook it was a natural progression of our passion for all things poultry-related.”
Chicken Delish @ Best Food Forward 2012
“It came to a point that I wasn’t just happy serving my chicken at home as I was also pondering my retirement from the corporate jungle and embarking on a business… I went ahead to test my business idea in the Soderno Sunday market last year and after its initial success with the weekend crowd, an opportunity came for me to open a stand-alone store at the Caltex Gas station in Better Living, Paranaque City. I’ve also been joining bazaars like the Midnight Mercato in the Fort to gain further exposure for my product,” adds Annalyn or AJ for short.

Chicken Delish‘s four-piece chicken wings afford-ably cost P90 while the two-piece drumsticks are at P120. Feel free to share your experience with Chicken Delish in the comment section below specially if you’re from the south. 🙂

Albeit Mr.Kurosawa Restaurant has been around for more than three years now (Eastwood branch), this was the first time I was able to try it in their Newport Mall, Resorts World Manila branch, which is on their second year of operations.
The Euro-Japanese mix concept is new to me as well. The owners described it as “Japanese cuisine with a touch of European flair” headed by corporate Chef Christine Nicole Nicolas, Chef Benjamin Gonzales, and Chef Florabel Co-Yatco.
French-Japanese items like tempura or gyoza souflaits, steaks and fine wines; Greek-Japanese items like Japanese kebabs and salads; Spanish-Japanese items like the japaella; and Italian-Japanese items such as pastas and pizza, are among some of the interesting fusion cuisines. This is complemented with traditional Japanese favourites such as kobe, teriyaki, tempura, donburi, sushi and sashimi.
New Offerings
Their new offerings include chicken, katsu dishes, and milk teas. They are the following:
Tongkatsu (Breaded deep-fried pork cutlet)
Fish Katsu (P268)
and Shrimp Katsu (top photo)
There are also Salmon Katsu (P448) and Torikatsu (P288) which I was not able to try. Regular iced tea are at about P70; add P30 for the large size.
Highly Recommended
Highly recommended are the 4pc. Chicken Wings called Last Samurai (P298) and Ebi Katsu (P398).
Last Samurai (Chicken Wings)

Needs Improvement
On the other hand, thier range of milk teas need perking up. I found the Strawberry Yakult Milk Tea (Sakura) and Matcha Milk Tea (Yojimbo) ordinary.
I have yet to try the Winter Melon Milk Tea (Sanjuru).
Here are some more shots from their menu:

No food blog needs to tell you that the milk tea craze has hit the Philippine’s capital and metropolis while slowly moving into the suburbs as you are reading this article. And Seattle’s Best Coffee is not turning a blind eye to this ongoing, and even phenomenal, trend.
SBC Milk Tea (Cold)
They’ve always had it, but it’s now being given a spotlight. Available for almost a month now, I was only able to try Seattle’s Best Milk Tea a week or two ago in their Greenhills Town Center branch.
Having recently come from the milk tea capital of the world that is Taiwan, my interest in milk teas has certainly grown. And sometimes, I can’t help but compare them to what we have here.
But I don’t even have to go far. Seattle’s Best Milk Tea is already unique by itself on how they positioned themselves in the market. Here are my observations:
They only offer one variant/flavor of milk tea
They offer their milk tea with a hot option (something not so common)
They use red pearls
One and Only Milk Tea Variant
In contrast to the usual milk tea shops, Seattle’s Best is offering only one kind of milk tea – the SBC Milk Tea.
It’s a blend of black and green tea infused with caramel flavor to take care of the sweetness.
I told a friend that they are actually taking a big risk here. It’s a hit or miss thing. With only one option, you either get the customer’s nod or nay. It’s a bold move, I should say (or maybe they are still testing the market).
Hot Milk Tea
Although a hot milk tea is not a regular thing either in Taiwan, more so is the case in the Philippines. It’s good thing SBC offers this option for those who want it not chilled.
Red pearls
They want to be different, and it comes in style. As trivial as it is, having red pearls (or sago) in your milk tea adds that SBC touch, specially to someone like me who almost always have it with extra pearls. 🙂 It’s not unique though as I recently saw one in particular, the new ‘Drink Tea‘ shop having the same (there’s one in The Podium).
It’s only red tapioca/pearls and no other. You won’t find a nata or jelly option as add-ons. 🙂
Greenhills Town Center in San Juan area
The Verdict
Cold
After all has been said, what now? To shoot it straight to the point, the SBC Milk Tea was good, although I’ve had better. I’m not sure if my cup had much ice, but it was at the verge of being bland.
Hot
The hot SBC Milk Tea was also good but most of my friends dismissed it as too sweet. I think it deserves a second chance. I like it better than the cold one I had. It gets my thumbs up!
It’s also perfect with an order of the SBC Clubhouse.
SBC Clubhouse
Tip
With my experience with the cold one, I suggest you tell the counter to reduce the amount of ice by half. I’d try that myself the next time I go back. 🙂
Price
The cold SBC Milk Tea is available in sizes medium (PhP110) and large (PhP120), while the hot one is slightly cheaper at P100Â and P110, respectively. The price is fair enough considering the ambiance of a known coffee shop.
With Seattle’s Best Coffee is giving in to the milk tea craze, I suggest you give-in as well and find your cup of tea – hot or cold. The SBC Milk Tea is available only here in the Philippines and until March 31, 2012.

This is the first time cocktail mixing will be featured here and it was really quite an interesting experience. The Canadian Tourism and Hospitality Institute (CTHI) invited NomNom Club late last year to seat in and participate in one of their lifestyle courses entitled Cocktail Mixing 101.
Cocktail Mixing 101
Popular cocktail drinks featured during the seminar were Strawberry Margarita, Frozen Pina Colada, Strawberry Mango Daiquiri Frozen, Mojito, Strawberry Mojito, and Tequila Sunrise. And as expected, we tried all of them! 🙂
Strawberry Margarita
Strawberry Margarita is a mixture of pureed strawberry, Tequila, lime juice and crushed ice served in a sexy margarita glass.
I personally love the Pina Colada Frozen. It’s a mixture of rum, pina colada mix and crushed ice served in hi-ball glass and garnish with pineapple wedge and straw.
For the Strawberry Mojito, you can use 7 mint leaves, strawberry halved and 2 lime wedges, rum, fresh sour rocks mix, pureed strawberries topped with soda.
The Tequila Sunrise is the easiest to prepare with few ingredients just the Tequila, orange juice and grenadine with orange juice and straw to garnish and serve in a hi-ball glass.

This three hour long cocktail mixing 101 seminar was delivered by Sir Joel. It was an information-overload for me, but I learned a lot from choosing the right glass, mixing and garnishing, and knowing how to prepare popular cocktails in a professional way.
Here’s video taken during the seminar.

Before the Cocktail Mixing 101 seminar ended, Sir Joel did us some flair bar tending exhibition. It was an interesting show as he juggled and flipped bottles and shakers with amazing skills.
Weight will never be an issue for a girl as skinny as I. That is what others thought of me. But, like the majority of the crowd who attended the new Del MonteFit ‘n Right launch last November at One Rockwell, I just don’t seem too happy with my figure. Good thing, I have met health and fashion experts to ask if what I’m feeling was normal.
🙂
As I went in the function room, Nicole warmly approached me and led me to 3 different booths: fitness, food and fashion. First, I had my weight, fat mass and body fat percentage measured. Then, I proceeded to the next booth were Rajo Laurel’s team took my figure measurement.
Science of Sexy
Sexy Chef Barni Alejandro
The last booth I went to was Sexy Chef’s. I told her that even if I ate a lot I still get my average weight. And, I’m not quite happy about it.
She told me that I must be happy because not all people can eat a lot and have their metabolism fast, like I’ve got.
“Frequent eating makes our metabolism fast.â€, she added.
She actually recommended some of the food I need to include in my meals, like brown rice, which contains plenty of health benefits. She also mentioned that our age also has something to do with our metabolism. The older we get, the more our metabolism slows down. I wanted to chat with her more but lunch was ready, prepared by hers truly.
(L-R) Fit ‘n Right brand manager, Sexy Chef Barni Alejandro, Fitness Expert Raul Banzon, and Rajo Laurel
After all the tummies were filled with delectable food, the program started. The basic formula to fight fat was revealed by the experts. And the Science of Sexy Challenge was introduced.
(FAT= Calories consumed – Calories burned) / (Basic formula to fight fat)
To explain, fat accumulation is determined by the calorie content of the food you eat vs. the calories you burn through regular exercise. So, to lose weight and reduce fat mass, we need to increase physical activity to burn more fat, and/or eat fewer calories.
New Del Monmte Fit 'n Right
The recommended rate of weight loss is 1-2 pounds per week. This means working in at least 30 minutes of daily aerobic activity in our daily routine. Plus, daily rice intake by 1 cup (1/2 at lunch and another half at dinner).
Simple? Of course not without discipline, self-control and a help buddy, the discussion recommended the new and improved Del Monte Fit ‘n Right.
Fit ‘n Right now has the combination of L-Carnitine plus new GCE (Green Coffee Extract), a natural ingredient taken from unroasted green coffee beans. But don’t worry the taste was proven to be more of a fruit juice than a coffee.
The panel shared that GCE’s role is to block our body’s absorption of sugar. The less sugar our body absorbs, the less excess calories that can turn into fat. A clinical study shows that with daily consumption of GCE, there is significant reduction in fat vs. L-Carnitine alone vs. diet and exercise alone. Check out trial results below.
