Mao Jia Hunan

Hunan province in China is famous for its spicy fares and that’s what Mao Jia Hunan Cuisine restaurant along Bagtikan street in Makati is bringing to its customers and nearby residents.

Mao Jia Hunan RestaurantNomNom Club found its tastebuds in this Chinese restaurant as part of our 4th-stop in the Avida Food Hunt tour organized by Avida Land. Accompanied by Chef JJ Yulo, our media group was oriented to Mao Jia Hunan‘s special flagship dish called Steamed Chili Fish Head (top photo).

Steamed Chili Fish Head

Steamed Chili Fish Head

The Steamed Chili Fish Head is quite self-descriptive as it’s basically a fish head steamed in family-blended herbs and essences, and served in two spicy variants – mild spicy and ultra-spicy.

Needless to say, I only tried a bit of this, being spice-averse. But spicy-lovers would surely like it.

The fish meat is also very fresh. At P380, it’s worth every ounce and taste.

Moreover, it goes best with a very popular tea in mainland China called Wong Lo Kat tea. Frequent visitors can also try the Duotone Chili Fish Head at the same price.

We also tried the Spicy Fried Chicken (Php 220). This one passed my spice-tolerance level and is very good too.

Checking on their menu, I think I’d try the Salt & Pepper Shrimp (P380) in my next visit. Check out Mao Jia Hunan Cuisine near the corner of Bagtikan and Pasong Tamo streets in Makati. The restaurant is big enough to accommodate about fifty to a hundred diners.
