Beyond Xiao Long Bao @ Paradise Dynasty

We recently dined at Paradise Dynasty Podium branch with a group of friends.  Although it was my first time, it was good that it wasn’t for our friends; so they knew what to order.

Paradise Dynasty is really known for their 8-Flavor Xiao Long Bao which we featured in another article at the Seats For Two couple lifestyle blog.

So this time around, it’s time to turn the spotlight to Paradise Dynasty’s other dishes which are just as good and flavorful!

Hinging from the time of imperial culture in northern and southern China,  Paradise Dynasty presents a concept that originated from Singapore. They aim to capture the finer points of bygone eras in contemporary style.

Still for appetizers, what came next is the stir-fried French Beans with Minced Pork. and Pork in Hot Chili Vinaigrette(first photo).

The former was good one while the latter has a bright red slightly-spicy sauce. Nonetheless, it was a good starter for what’s ahead. (*wink)

Then came the Radish Pastry. It was covered with flour flakes but it was the soft savory filling of radish at the center which made it decadent to the taste.

The Scrambled Egg White with Fish and Compoy (P328) which followed it was just as  interesting.

At first impression, the dish might give the impression of congee, but it’s actually a mix of what its name suggests – egg white, fish, and compoy. It sounds simple, but it is good!

Moreover, you can request the server to mix it for you upon serving. Mixing it again (or the probability of over-mixing) is not suggested as it can become watery. It’s also best consumed while hot.

Chilled Tofu with Century Egg

Last for the appetizers is one of my favorite – the Chilled Tofu with Century Egg.

Combining the goodness of tofu and the unique taste of chopped century eggs, it is served cold. It’s refreshing as well.

The soft tofu goes well with the sauce, and complemented with the century egg. For vegan and those on a diet, this dish is highly recommended too.

Crispy-fried Crystal Prawns tossed with Salted Egg Yolk (P588)

It may come as a surprise to some non-Chinese, but the rice bowls may not be served at the start of the main course. It can actually be served last.

So what we had first was the Spicy Szechuan Crispy Chicken. As expected, it’s a bit spicy even without biting into the red chilis. It’s also peppery at the same time it’s flavorful.

Next is the crispy-fried Crystal Prawns tossed with Salted Egg Yolk. It was hit in the group!

Alright, this “Poached Beef in Szechuan Chili Oil” is simply the bomb! We could easily say that this is the most-spicy soup NomNom Club ever had!

I’m not that into spicy food / soup, but the Pinoy (Filipino) friends we were with in this occasion are! And our spicy lover friends confessed that this Szechuan dish is a challenger even for them!

What’s more interesting though is that, according to Paradise Dynasty, they do have mainland Chinese customers who orders this big bowl for one individual alone and they can finish it with ease! Maybe they’re really from China’s Szechuan / Sichuan province! 🙂
