Halo-Halo in Tokyo Tokyo?

Tokyo Tokyo’s “Halo-Halo”

Can you feel the afternoon heat rising as the days go by? Although the Philippine weather bureau says it’s not yet officially summer in the Philippines, Pinoy foodies are certainly already looking for summer heat quenchers such as the famous Halo-Halo….and Tokyo Tokyo might just have what you are looking for!

Snow Ice

Yes! There’s now “Halo Halo” in Tokyo Tokyo!

Tokyo Tokyo braces for summer as they recently added summer stoppers in their menu called “Snow Ice” desserts fitting for an ice festival right in the middle of the impending heat wave. Based on the concept of a Japanese festival offering shaved ice delicacy with mixed flavored syrups called Kakigori, Tokyo Tokyo puts a twist to the popular Filipino iced dessert Halo-Halo.

Tokyo Tokyo Halo Halo

The Tokyo Tokyo Halo Halo comes in a bowl of shaved ice topped off by flavored goodies such as the crunchy pinipig cereal (cornflakes), lechec flan, nata, and ube (purple yam).

Although the “sahog” (ingredients) are not that varied like in the traditional Pinoy Halo-Halo, the mix turned out to be a very good one! I would say that a big factor is in the soft vanilla-flavored finely shaved-ice which complemented well with the other ingredients to provide a smoother and lighter consistency fitting for a summer ice dessert.

The leche flan made it creamier while the ube (purple yam) provided a native texture and made the treat extra sweet. The ube goes well with the shaved-ice. The cornflakes obviously provided some crunch while the green nata gave us something to delightfully chew. NomNom Club recommends that you mix all the ingredients well before consuming right after it is served.

Mango Peach Medley & Choco Sensation

The new Tokyo Tokyo Snow Ice desserts had two other variants namely the Mango Peach Medley and the Choco Sensation. The Mango Peach Medley has the same vanilla-flavored ice with slices of tangy peach and tart mango. On the other hand, the Choco Sensation had chunks of brownies and mini marshmallows. The former is good for those who prefer it not too sweet since the peach and mango can provide contrast to the slightly sweet shaved ice while the latter is for the chocolate and definitely sweets lover.

NomNom Club‘s top choice and recommendation, however, is the “Halo-Halo“. I didn’t expect to like it at first since NomNom Club is an admitted long-time fan of Razon’s Halo-Halo.

I guess now, they have competition at only Php 79 per serving. All the Snow Ice desserts have the same price points.

Chase away the summer heat with Tokyo Tokyo Halo-Halo! I was able to consume a whole order by myself but I think it can also be shared by two.

So before you hit the beaches, get your summer fix with the new Tokyo TokyoSnow Ice” desserts nationwide this April (but some Tokyo Tokyo branches such as the one in SM Megamall already serves them, I got mine from the Fort Bonifacio branch in Net Lima building).
