It was held at the SM Mall of Asia Main Mall last March 7, 2015 for the whole day and graced by Goldilocks endorser and culinary aficionado Mrs. Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo. The event was also hosted by the charming Chef Jackie Ang Po and radio DJ Gino Quillamor of RX 93.1.

The Intercollegiate Cake Decorating Challenge (ICDC) has been hosted by Goldilocks since 2006 with the objective of giving college students a venue to showcase their creativity and talents in cake-decorating while majority of baking industry events focus on professional demos and/or seminars.

This 2015, countless schools from all over the Philippines submitted entries, in hopes of being one of the  finalists. Aside from highlighting future pastry chefs, it provided support for the Hotel and Restaurant and/or Culinary Arts training at the school level. At the onset of invitations to the schools all over the Philippines with a Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM), Hotel and Restaurant Administration (HRA), or Culinary Arts curriculum, the list of qualifiers were already narrowed down to representing the very best of their discipline.

Similar to the hit television shows “Iron Chef” and “Iron Chef America”, contestants of the Intercollegiate Cake Decorating Challenge shared one stage and one central supply bin. The supply cabinet contained a full array of decorative materials such as sprinkles, candies, toppers, and dyes. The base ingredient, of course, is Avoset Pour N Whip, which has been the event‘s co-sponsor since Its first installment. They decorated their cakes within a given time frame as well.

The setup objectives are the following:

  1. Provides the audience an opportunity to witness the actual process of cake decorating,
  2. Encourages camaraderie and teamwork within the representatives
  3. Provides intensity, urgency, and excitement allowing the students to hone real-world skills under a simulated environment.

Moreover this year, Goldilocks added a new twist by providing only two themes,  namely a debut inspired cake using whipped creme, and a wedding cake using fondant. Teams are also now allowed to layer their cakes in whatever way they want. The duration was extended to five (5) hours.

This year’s finalists were Far Eastern University, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Pangasinan State University, St. Anne College of Lucena, Western Institute of Technology Iloilo, and Gabriel Taborin College of Davao.
